PROFESSOR RAVI ARVIND PALAT

           Ravi Arvind Palat is a professor of sociology at the State University of New
           York at Binghamton. He has previously taught at the universities of Hawaii
           and Auckland. He is the author of Capitalist Restructuring and the Pacific Rim
           and Princes, Paddyfields, Bazaars: Wet-Rice Cultivation and the Emergence of the
           Indian Ocean World-Economy, 1250-1650; and the editor of Pacific-Asia and the
           Future of the World-System. His research interests are in the fields of historical
           sociology and political economy and is currently working on two books, one on
           creations of national cuisines and the other on neoliberalism and the growth
           of migration.
