PROFESSOR HIMANSHU PRABHA RAY
Former Chairperson, National Monuments Authority
Himanshu Prabha Ray is former Chairperson, National Monuments Authority
and former Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. From 2014
to 2019 she held the prestigious Anneliese Maier award of the Humboldt
Foundation and is currently affiliated to the Oxford Centre for Hindu
Studies, Oxford. Her recent books from Routledge include Coastal Shrines
and Transnational Maritime Networks across India and Southeast Asia (2021);
Archaeology and Buddhism in South Asia (2018); The Return of the Buddha: Ancient
Symbols for a New Nation (2014) and an edited book, The Archaeology of Knowledge
Traditions of the Indian Ocean World (2021). She is also the guest editor of the
special issue of the India Quarterly (76.3) on the Mausam Initiative, 2020.
