ICWA Library (Sapru House Library)

ICWA Library was inaugurated by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru as the premier collection of documents on international relations in India. One of India's finest and most coveted research libraries, the Indian Council of World Affairs' Library is located in the heart of New Delhi. It is well equipped on international affairs and allied streams including political history and developments in India.

Functioning since 1955, the the Library is a treasure trove of more than 141,000 volumes of books, thousands of them rare, bound periodicals, rare maps, microfiches and about one million press clippings in digital format with special reference to international relations, international law and international economy. It offers a congenial atmosphere with a reader- cultured approach in a serene and calm environment. It subscribes to 67 national and international research journals, receives 164 journals on exchange / gratis basis. Library subscribes 12 national daily newspapers. Library has more than 35 thousand periodicals in bound form. Newspaper files of the Hindu (Madras) from 1933 to 1979, the Times of India (Bombay) from 1945 to1975 and the Times of India (New Delhi) from 1969 to 2004 are also preserved beside stray volumes of The Asian Age, The Economic Times,The Financial Times (London), The International Herald Tribune, The Nation (Lahore), The Pakistan Times and The Japan Times (Tokyo) News.

UNITED NATIONS & EUROPEAN UNION SECTION

The ICWA Library is a repository for the United Nations and European Union documents, periodicals and its other publications. The library has almost all the UN documents since 1945. Important among them are Security Council and General Assembly debates and their Resolutions. The access to these documents is free of charge. Similarly, the Library has almost all the publications of the European Union documents under a repository scheme.

PERIODICALS INDEXING SERVICE

The Library also provides bibliographical support to scholars. Over 3 lakh indexes on international affairs, India and Indian politics, in card format from 202 journals covering the period from 1956 to 2003 are available in journals section of the Library.
