Dr
Vijay Sakhuja is Director (Research), Indian
Council of World Affairs (ICWA), New Delhi.
He is also Visiting Senior Research Fellow
at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies
(ISEAS), Singapore since 2006.
A former Indian Navy officer, Dr Sakhuja
received his Ph D from the Jawaharlal
Nehru University in New Delhi.
Dr Sakhuja has been on the research faculty
of various think tanks in India: Senior
Fellow at the Centre for Airpower Studies
(CAPS) and Observer Research Foundation
(ORF); Research Fellow at the Institute
for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA),
and United Service Institution of India
(USI), all at New Delhi. He has lectured
at various Indian and international universities
and military colleges.
Vijay Sakhuja’s research areas
include politico-strategic developments
in the Indian Ocean, Asia Pacific security,
climate change and Arctic security, and
maritime and naval developments.
He is author of Asian Maritime Power
in the 21st Century: Strategic Transactions
-China, India and Southeast Asia (2011)
and Confidence Building from the Sea:
An Indian Initiative (2001).
His recent manuscripts titled Politico-Strategic
Developments in the Arctic (2012) is under
publication and a co-authored volume titled
Geopolitics of Climate Change in the Bay
of Bengal (2012) is under review.
Dr Vijay Sakhuja is editor of India Vietnam
Strategic Partnership: Exploring Vistas

Dr.
Sanjeev Kumar is Research
Fellow at the Indian Council of
World Affairs, New Delhi. He received
his Ph.D. from School of International
Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University,
New Delhi. He is a recipient of
the prestigious ASIA Fellows Award
and conducted field research in
Shaanxi, Anhui and Zhejiang provinces
of China. He was affiliated with
the School of International Studies,
Peking University, Beijing, the
Chinese Academy of Social Sciences
(CASS), Beijing as Visiting Fellow.
Dr Kumar was educated in Chinese
Language from the Graduate School,
CASS, Beijing. He has presented
papers at national and international
conferences in India and abroad.
His research interests lie in
the areas of China’s foreign
and neighbourhood policy, India-China
relations and the political economy
of China’s development,
including rural development. Dr.
Kumar has published research papers
in these areas and contributed
chapters in edited volumes published
in India, China and the US. Dr.
Kumar has co-edited with Ambassador
C. V. Ranganthan The 18th National
Congress of the Communist Party
of China: A Major Turning Point
for China (New Delhi, 2013)

Saurabh is a Research Fellow
at ICWA, New Delhi
Earlier, he worked
as a Lecturer with the Bhim Rao
Ambedkar Bihar University, Muzaffarpur.
Since 2006, he has given special
lectures, as a visiting faculty,
for the students of Malviya Centre
for Peace Research, Banaras Hindu
University, Varanasi, on various
contemporary issues e.g. globalization,
human security, sustainable development,
terrorism etc. He has presented
papers at national and international
conferences in India and abroad
and has contributed widely for various
websites, journals, magazines and
newspapers.
He received his Ph.D from South
Asian Studies Division, School of
International Studies, Jawaharlal
Nehru University, New Delhi and
M.A. in Political Science with the
specilisation in International Relations
from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.
His research expertise includes:
human security, development issues
and foreign policy with the focus
on South Asia, especially Nepal
and Bangladesh. He has authored
a book on Human Security and Development
and edited the first Sapru House
Papers of ICWA. He is a recipient
of UGC-NET award in the areas of
(a) Political Science, (b) South
Asian Studies, and (c) Gandhian
Thought and Peace Studies. Currently,
he is working on human security
and foreign policy issues in Nepal
and Bangladesh. |

Dr. Vibhanshu Shekhar
has done his Post-doctoral research
from RSPAS, Australian National
University, Canberra and Ph.D. from
School of International Studies,
Jawaharlal Nehru University, New
Delhi. Before joining the ICWA,
Dr. Shekhar worked as a Research
Associate in the School of International
Studies, JNU for more than two years
and published his book The Politics
of Islam, Nation-building and Development:
Ethnic Violence and Terrorism in
Indonesia.
Dr. Shekhar headed Southeast Asia
Research Program at the New Delhi-based
Institute of Peace and Conflict
Studies for a year. His primary
research work involved (a) mapping
different aspects of India-ASEAN
relations (both country- and issue-specific),
(b) analyzing trends and assessing
risks in India’s engagement
with Asia-Pacific, and (c) working
towards identifying new areas of
India-ASEAN engagement. He has also
worked as a Short-term Consultant
with the World Bank.
Dr. Shekhar has written articles
in national and international journals,
chapters in different edited books
and opinion pieces in several newspapers
(Indian and Indonesian).

Dr
Nivedita Ray is a Research Fellow
at the Indian Council of World Affairs
(ICWA), New Delhi. She has done
her Ph.D from School of International
Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Prior to joining the ICWA, she was
a Ford Foundation Post doctoral
fellow at Centre for African Studies,
Jawaharlal Nehru University. She
was associated with Institute for
Defence Studies and Analyses as
a Researcher on African affairs.
She is the Associate Editor of the
journal Insight on Africa, and Joint
Secretary, African Studies Association
of India.
She has undertaken research on foreign
policy and security issues of the
countries in Sub- Saharan Africa
and has done intensive research
on security issues in Horn of Africa
with special focus on Sudan and
Somalia. Her areas of research interest
include India-Africa Relations,
Indian Diaspora in Africa, Maritime
Security, Gender and Conflict. She
has presented research papers in
various national and international
seminars in India and abroad. She
has contributed articles in journals,
websites, magazines and chapters
in edited books. Currently her research
focus is on India’s Engagement
with East Africa.

Sandipani Dash is a Research Fellow
at the Indian Council of World Affairs

Ph.D. on Sudan’s Oil Diplomacy
(1991-2003) from erstwhile Centre
for West Asian and African Studies,
School of International Studies,
Jawaharlal Nehru University. Prior
to joining the ICWA, he was an Assistant
Professor at the Department of Political
Science, Maharaja Agrasen College,
University of Delhi. He was working
as a Research Associate in the Institute
for Conflict Management. He is the
Assistant Editor of the newsletter
ASA News, African Studies Association
of India.
His areas of research interest include
India-Africa Relations, Resource
Diplomacy and African Political
Economy. He has presented research
papers in various national and international
seminars. He has authored a book
titled "Sudan’s Oil Diplomacy".
He has contributed articles in journals,
websites, and chapters in edited
books. Currently his research focus
is on India’s Resource Engagement

Fazzur Rahman Siddiqui is a Research
Fellow at the Indian Council of
World Affairs, New Delhi. He received
his PhD from School of International
Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru university,
New Delhi with a dissertation on
Islamic-Political Movement in West
Asia and South Asia. His research
expertise includes Islamic undercurrent
in West Asian Politics and dynamics
of development and modernization
in the Arab World. His knowledge
of the West Asian region is grounded
in the linguistic and Islamic perspectives
with the particular orientation
of historical evolution of the region.
He knows Arabic, Urdu, and Persian
apart from English and Hindi. He
has authored a book, “The Concept
of Islamic State: From the time
of Caliphate to Twentieth Century:
Pre-Ikhwan and Post Ikhwan phase”
published from Lebanon. He has presented
papers in national and international
Conference in India and abroad and
contributed chapters in edited books.

Dr Guru has obtained his Doctoral Degree from the Centre for Comparative Politics and Political Theory, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He is an alumnus of Madras Christian College, Chennai. His PhD thesis focused on the impact of changing global order following 11 September 2001 events on Japan's security policy. Dr. Asif Shuja is a Research Fellow at the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), New Delhi. Currently he is working on a research project on India's Diplomatic Challenges in Maintaining India-Iran Relations. Prior to joining the ICWA, he was working as a Research Associate in the Centre for Air Power Studies (CAPS), New Delhi on a research project on the Controversies surrounding the Iranian Nuclear Programme. During his stay in the CAPS, he was also associated with the Nuclear Security Project of the Department of Atomic Energy.
Dr. Shuja has done his Ph.D. on Iran's Domestic Political Power Struggle from the Centre for West Asian Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. His research expertise includes the Domestic Politics of Iran, the Iranian Nuclear Issue and India-Iran Relations. His other research interests include Regional Power Struggle in the Gulf, Nuclear Proliferation in the Gulf and India's Energy Diplomacy. He has widely published his research papers in the Journals pertaining to his area of interests.
