GENERAL LIBRARY RULES:
The following are some of the important rules for the library:

| 1.1 |
Membership/Identity cards are required to be shown at the entrance on demand. |
| 1.2 |
Personal belonging are not allowed to be taken inside the Library. Such belongings should be deposited at the Property Counter for the purpose. It should be clearly understood that the belongings left at the Property Counter are at the personal risk of readers. They should be collected back on the same day. The Library does not accept any responsibility for loss etc. |
| 1.3 |
Members are permitted to take inside the Library their personal books for consultation subject to necessary checking each time while taking in and taking out the personal books. |

| 2.1 |
Readers are required to handle the library reading material and property very carefully and not to (i) write in or mark (ii) tear-away pages or mutilate (iii) disfigure or otherwise cause damage in any way. |
| 2.2 |
In case damage is caused to any library reading material or property, the person concerned shall be liable to pay the replacement cost. In addition, his membership may be cancelled at the discretion of the Librarian. |
| 2.3 |
Members are expected to maintain strict silence and conduct themselves with dignity conducive to congenial atmosphere for study and research. |
| 2.4 |
Any one found guilty of misbehavior will render his/her membership liable to be cancelled at the sole discretion of the Librarian. |
| 2.5 |
No library reading material can be taken out without getting it properly issued. Any one found violating this rule will be considered liable to such action as may be deemed necessary by the Librarian. |

Library premises is completely a No smoking zone. |

| 3.1 |
Each regular member eligible for borrowing facilities will be issued two books for a fortnight. |
| 3.2 |
Books belonging to Reserve & Reference Section and Periodicals are not ordinarily issued except with special permission of the Librarian. |

| 4.1 |
An over-due charge of Rs 2.00 per title per day may be levied if a book belonging to General Collection is kept beyond the due date. |
| 4.2. |
The exact amount of over-due charges shall be put in the Conscience Box for the purpose. No receipt for the amount shall be issued. |
| 4.3 |
The Librarian may remit or exempt any person from payment of over-due charges at his discretion. |
| 4.4 |
Those members who are found to be in the habit of detaining library material will be dealt with strictness. If any one is found to have detained library material beyond one month after the due date thrice in a year, his/her membership of the library will be liable to be cancelled at the discretion of the Librarian. For this purposes proper record of each default will be maintained at the Counter. |

Books on loan are subject to recall by Librarian at any time. |
| 4.6 |
Reminders for over-due books are usually sent. However non-receipt of a reminder cannot be taken as a ground for late return of books. |
| 4.7 |
The books due may be re-issued upto a further period of 2 weeks provided: (i) No other reader has reserved the same book. (ii) that the postal request for renewal should reach the librarian at least 2 days before the due date. (iii) Not more than two renewals have already been made for the same book by the member consecutively. |

| 5.1 |
IIn case of loss of library reading material, the reader concerned shall be required to pay replacement price prevailing at the time of payment. |
| 5.2 |
In addition to replacement price, 25% extra charges Rs.100/- shall be payable for loss of books which in the opinion of Librarian can procured from market. |
| 5.3 |
In case of loss of rate and out-of-print books, and bound vols. of periodicals, the replacement cost shall be fixed by the Librarian in each case. |
| 5.4 |
In case of loss of loose issues of a periodical, replacement cost for the whole vol., shall be ordinarily required to be paid. |

| 6.1 |
The loss of library card should be immediately reported to the Librarian in writing. |
| 6.2 |
Due care will be taken by the library to prevent misuse of loss card. But the library does not accept any responsibility for this. The reader concerned shall continue to be responsible for any loss. Due to the misuse of the lost card even after having formally reported the loss and having been issued duplicate card. |
| 6.3 |
On request, duplicate card may be issued after a period of 15 days after the report of loss was made. However the member shall pay Rs.50/- for the duplicate card required. |

| 7.1 |
Each member entitled to borrowing facilities may reserve not more than 2 books etc. at a time. |
| 7.2 |
The books etc., reserved by more than one reader will be issued for a shorter duration depending upon the demand of the book. |
| 7.3 |
The order in the reservation register will be strictly followed for servicing of reserve books. |
| 7.4 |
The book reserved shall be issued only against the valid tickets of the person making the reservation. |

| 8.1 |
The membership card is not transferable. |
| 8.2 |
Any constructive suggestion from readers will be most welcomed. |
| 8.3 |
Strict discipline and decorum of the library shall be maintained all the time. |
| 8.4 |
No one should remove any part of library, any newspaper or current issues of periodical on display. |
| 8.5 |
No one should enter the counter or use library telephones without prior permission. |
| 8.6 |
The borrowers shall satisfy themselves about the physical condition of the books before borrowing. No plea that book was already damaged will be entertained at the time of return of the book. |
| 8.7 |
A member against whom over-due charges pending shall not be allowed to borrow or withdraw security deposit. |
| 8.8 |
The Librarian may grant special permission to any person to borrow books at his discretion. |
| 8.9 |
Notwithstanding, the Librarian may at his/her discretion relax any of the rules. |
